Mind releases new resources to support NHS workers
At Duty to Care we want to highlight other great charities who are not only focused on the welfare of NHS workers, but who are also providing resources and information to back it up.
Mind are tireless mental health campaigners and they have curated a new resource, Mental Health at Work. “You support us, we support you” words that provide the backbone to the charity’s support and resources that are aimed at helping to manage and improve mental health in all workplaces.
Part of their initiative is Our Frontline, particularly focused on supporting the wonderful frontline health, care, emergency, education and key workers. Now more than ever it is imperative to pay attention to, and look after, the mental health of our keyworkers and Our Frontline offers 24/7, one-to-one support from trained volunteers. This combines with a plethora of resources, tips and tricks they have put together to help tend to your mind.
Although the long term impact that the coronavirus pandemic will have on our NHS workforce is yet unclear, we know that it is crucial for it to be addressed now. As such, Our Frontline has just launched a new series of wellbeing resources aimed directly at the leaders and line managers within the NHS for who improving the mental health and wellbeing of their staff is of top priority.
The series will be formed of three main resources. These focus on:
The role of NHS leaders in reducing mental health stigma and creating mentally healthy cultures
The role of NHS line managers in supporting better mental health
The role of champions and peer supporters
Research from the British Medical Association and Mind has found that senior leadership within the NHS is not doing enough to create cultures where staff feel comfortable prioritising their mental health, disappointingly there is still a stigma associated with these issues. These three new resources are specifically aimed at addressing the problems, providing a starting point for NHS leaders. If not now, when?
